Estimate calories burned during exercise based on MET values, duration, and body weight
This calculator estimates the number of calories you burn during physical activity using the Metabolic Equivalent of Task (MET) method. MET values represent the energy cost of physical activities as a multiple of resting metabolic rate. By entering your activity type, duration, and body weight, you can get a reliable estimate of your energy expenditure for over a dozen common exercises.
Calories burned are calculated using the standard MET formula: Calories = MET value × weight in kg × duration in hours. One MET equals approximately 1 kcal per kg per hour, which is the energy expended while sitting at rest.
The MET method provides a reasonable estimate for average individuals, but actual calorie burn varies based on factors like fitness level, body composition, age, and exercise intensity. For more precise measurements, consider using a heart rate monitor or wearable device that accounts for your individual physiology.
This calculator uses kilograms. To convert your weight from pounds to kilograms, divide your weight in pounds by 2.205. For example, 155 lbs ÷ 2.205 = approximately 70 kg.
