Calculate density, mass, or volume given any two values
This density calculator uses the fundamental formula ρ = m/V. Enter any two of the three values (mass, volume, density) to calculate the third. The calculator supports multiple units and converts results to g/cm³, kg/m³, and lb/ft³.
Select what you want to calculate — Density, Mass, or Volume — and provide the other two values. Results are shown in all common units.
| Material | Density (g/cm³) | Density (kg/m³) |
|---|---|---|
| Water (4°C) | 1.00 | 1,000 |
| Air (20°C) | 0.0012 | 1.2 |
| Aluminum | 2.70 | 2,700 |
| Iron / Steel | 7.85 | 7,850 |
| Copper | 8.96 | 8,960 |
| Lead | 11.34 | 11,340 |
| Gold | 19.32 | 19,320 |
| Concrete | 2.40 | 2,400 |
| Wood (Oak) | 0.75 | 750 |
| Gasoline | 0.75 | 750 |
The density of water at 4°C is 1.00 g/cm³ (1,000 kg/m³). This is the standard reference point. Water density changes slightly with temperature, being less dense when warmer or frozen as ice (0.92 g/cm³).
To convert g/cm³ to kg/m³, multiply by 1,000. To convert kg/m³ to lb/ft³, divide by 16.0185. For example, water at 1 g/cm³ = 1,000 kg/m³ = 62.4 lb/ft³. Our calculator shows all three units automatically.
