About the Final Grade Calculator

This final grade calculator helps you determine the exact score you need on your final exam to achieve your desired course grade. It uses the standard formula: Required = (Desired - Current × (1 - Weight)) / Weight. The calculator also shows letter grades for your current grade, desired grade, and required score, plus a what-if scenario builder.

How to Use

  1. Enter your current grade percentage, desired grade percentage, and the final exam's weight toward your overall grade.
  2. Click "Calculate Required Score" to see the minimum score needed on your final exam and the corresponding letter grade.
  3. Use the what-if section to test different current grade scenarios and see how they change the required score.

FAQs

What if the required score is over 100%?

If the calculated required score exceeds 100%, it means your desired grade is mathematically impossible based on your current grade and the exam weight. You would need extra credit or to adjust your target grade lower. The calculator will show a warning when this occurs.

Can I use this for any exam weight?

Yes. The formula works for any exam weight between 0% and 100%. A higher exam weight means the final has more influence on your overall grade, so the required score will be closer to your desired grade. A lower weight means your current grade matters more.
