FAQs

How is GPA calculated?

GPA is calculated by dividing total quality points by total credit hours. Each letter grade has a numeric value (A=4.0, A-=3.7, B+=3.3, etc.) that is multiplied by the course's credit hours to get quality points. Sum all quality points and divide by total credits.

What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?

An unweighted GPA uses a standard 4.0 scale regardless of course difficulty. A weighted GPA gives extra value for honors, AP, or IB courses (up to 5.0). This calculator computes an unweighted GPA. For weighted calculations, use our High School GPA Calculator.
